Spoonful OS

Spoonful OS, the Dose Tracker: a child's profile on a phone

The challenge

When a child is unwell, details slip

Parents, caregivers and doctors all need the same answers, and the answers live in different places.

  1. Scattered notes

Symptoms and temperatures are jotted down wherever there is room.

  2. Unclear doses

Which medicine, how much, and who gave it is hard to say afterwards.

  3. Care split across people

Each person sees only their part of the picture.

What I did

From the problem to the screens

Research and low fidelity came first, so the hi-fi design started from a defined problem.

  1. Define the problem

Ran sessions with the client to define the problem statement and understand the real challenges.

  2. Research and wireframes

Interviewed users to learn their motivations and goals, then sketched low fidelity wireframes before any hi-fi design.

  3. Hi-fi in Apple HIG

Designed the screens with the charts and components from Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and component library.

The app screens: the profile, symptoms, medication and care team, with the app icon
Track symptoms: a body temperature chart, the menu and the symptoms list
Track medications with confidence: editing dosage, frequency and expiry dates
Dose tracker: the medication history for today and yesterday
Collaborative: invite parents, caregivers and doctors to build a connected care team
Childcare made easy: symptoms, medication and allergies in one child profile
